Julius I. Poellnitz Jr., former director of missions (DOM) for Cahaba Baptist Association, died March 8.
He was 89.
A Marengo County native, Poellnitz was a World War II Air Force veteran and retired from the Air Force Reserve.
He served as pastor of Pisgah Baptist Church, Selma, from 1977 to 1983 and DOM for Cahaba Association from 1983 to 1996.
Poellnitz was also active in various civic and church organizations and a member of Big
Hill Baptist Church, Gordo.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sadie; two daughters; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
