Two committees, the credentials committee and the tellers committee, were appointed during the state convention’s opening session Nov. 16.
Another, the committee on committees, was appointed during the Tuesday sessions.
Outgoing state convention President Joe Godfrey announced the appointments 30 days prior to the annual meeting in accordance with bylaw requirements, but the appointments needed to be ratified by the messengers during the meeting.
The convention credentials committee helps with problems regarding registration and seating of messengers.
Serving as chairman of the committee was Rick Evans, pastor of Dalraida Baptist Church, Montgomery.
Serving with him were S. Todd Evans, Parkview, Decatur; Judy C. Felkins, First Baptist, Clanton; William “Billy” Joy, Hillcrest, Enterprise; Linda P. Melancon, Taylor Road, Montgomery; Harold Newberry, First, Pleasant Grove; Lawrence H. Phipps, Vaughn Forest, Montgomery.
Tellers Committee members helped convention officers tabulate convention votes. James O. Newell, pastor of First, Jasper, served as chairman. Other members were Charles W. Ashley, First, Montgomery; Lenny P. Bolton, Chisholm, Montgomery; John W. Fain, First Baptist, Dothan; J. Derek Gentle, First Baptist, Tallassee; William R. Morgan, First Baptist, Prattville; E. Gail Wood, Oak Level, Cullman.
The following were also elected to serve on the committee on committees for 2005: Jimmy E. Jackson, pastor of Whitesburg Church, Huntsville, chairman; Wanda C. Patterson, First, Silverhill; H. Andrew Hepburn, Taylor Road, Montgomery. (TAB)
