Midwestern nominates Alabama native Jason Allen as president

Alabama native Jason K. Allen, vice president for institutional advancement at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., has been selected by Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s (MBTS) presidential search team members in Kansas City, Mo., as their nominee for MBTS president.

Allen, 35, is executive director of the Southern Seminary Foundation and concurrently served as senior pastor of Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church, Louisville, Ky.

The search committee expects to bring Allen’s nomination to the board of trustees in October for an official vote. If elected, Allen will succeed R. Philip Roberts as Midwestern’s fifth president.

As a member of Southern Seminary’s executive cabinet since January 2006, Allen has been vice president of institutional advancement since 2009 and was executive assistant to the president 2006–09. He also has taught at Southern since 2007.

Allen also has served as senior pastor of Muldraugh Baptist Church, Muldraugh, Ky., and has worked in churches in Alabama and Kentucky since 1998.

He holds a doctorate and a master of divinity degree from Southern and an undergraduate degree from Spring Hill College in Mobile.

Fred Wolfe, pastor of Luke 4:18 Fellowship, Mobile, was Allen’s pastor at Cottage Hill Baptist Church, Mobile. “I remember his conversion as a wonderful experience in his life. His life was truly changed. He is a strong leader who works well with others,” Wolfe said.

From 1998 to 2001, Allen served as assistant to then-pastor Clint Pressley at Dauphin Way Baptist Church, Mobile. Pressley, now senior pastor of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Charlotte, N.C., said, “Jason Allen will provide great leadership, solid theology and a clear Christ-centered perspective.”
