The real issue with any politician is whether one is genuine in his or her faith.
To say you are against abortion and then support pro-choice positions because it is the law makes you a liar and a coward.
When it comes down to the murder of a child we are obligated as Christians to follow the God’s law even if it flies in the face of public opinion or man’s law. To say one must step down from the public arena because of a conflict of interest to a person of values is to evacuate our responsibility to be salt and light.
What if some federal judge says it is OK to kill your elderly parents?
Should we just say, “Well, I don’t believe it, but I’m going to do it because I don’t want to raise any barrier to anybody’s relation to God.”
We need people of virtue and Christian values making and taking a stand in this country for what is right, not what is politically expedient.
And by the way, Baptists are not raising barriers to one’s relationship to God. I believe what our denomination is doing is right, fair and biblical.
