Get to Me
Centricity
“Get to Me,” the first EP by new artists Unspoken on Centricity Music, had quite a debut on iTunes, where it reached #5 on the Christian & Gospel chart the second day after release. A quick listen will explain why. Good songwriting, clean production and excellent musicianship combine to make an excellent first effort. We’ll certainly hear more from these guys.
The band had its beginning in the Dominican Republic, where lead singer Chad Mattson had retreated on a missions trip to build churches, battle addiction and rebuild his relationship with God. While there he met guitarist Mike Gomez, and the two began to write and perform. Within two years they added bassist Jon Lowry and drummer Ariel Munoz and began playing anywhere they could. That was seven years ago. Since then they’ve shared the stage with such high-profile artists as Third Day, Casting Crowns and TobyMac. The Latin influence of Gomez and Munoz may be what adds the soulful, pop-rock flavor that’s bright, uplifting and fun.
The record’s first radio single, “Who You Are,” reflects Mattson’s recovery and the idea that our past does not dictate our future.
The band ministers with Celebrate Recovery, a 12-step program based on Christian principles founded by Saddleback Church.
I’m looking forward to their next release.
