The Parthenon Code
Robert Bowie Johnson Jr. Annapolis, Md.: Solving Lights Books, 2004. 288 pages.
Call 410-757-4630 for information and to order.

We are familiar with “The DaVinci Code” and “The Bible Code.” Here comes another code-oriented book with 25 illustrations. The author holds that “The Parthenon” reveals events in the Garden of Eden and other epics in the book of Genesis, as well as references to Noah and other biblical characters.

Holding that “The Parthenon Code” “is true, real and very relevant to our times and culture,” Johnson claims that this volume is the first one to decipher the meaning of the seven interrelated sculptural themes of “Parthenon.”

Although called “original, seminal, ground breaking and unforgettable” in another analysis, this reviewer is not competent to judge it fairly because of his lack of expertise in this field. Fascinating indeed.

This production is a refreshing read and brings a delightful experience. Subtitled “Boxwoods Among the Rockets,” this volume was written by an active member of Huntsville’s First Baptist Church who was director of public affairs for National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and a grower of broadleaf evergreens.

Here is the story of Joseph Jones, a boy from rural Alabama who overcame the limitations of depression-era circumstances to become one of the leading citizens of our state and a Christian statesman par excellence.

Life According to Jesus
Jack Graham. Wheaton Ill: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. 2004. 248 pages. (Paperback).

Using the subtitle, “Wisdom for Living Each Day to the Fullest,” the past president of the Southern Baptist Convention has left readers in his debt with the publication of this volume of approximately 75 devotional thoughts based on the Gospel of John.

This reviewer is quite happy that the pastor of the 22,000-member Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, has made this offering to his readers.
