“The Heart of Christmas” is based on a true story about the Locke family, whose son, Dax, was diagnosed with cancer that failed to respond to treatment. Learning that their son would probably not survive until Christmas, the family decided to give their son one last Christmas — in October.
The Lockes’ neighbors saw what the family was doing and joined in the celebration. The outpouring of love and support from the community was amazing and overwhelming, touching the grieving family and the entire community.
The movie came about because singer Matthew West asked people to send him inspiring true stories of their lives so he could write songs about them. He got thousands of submissions, including three about the Locke family. West was so moved by the story that he wrote the title song that led to the movie.
The movie is well done and beautifully cast, with actors like Candace Cameron Bure and Erin Bethea. If you like movies described as “heartwarming” and “touching,” you’ll love this one.
The movie is available on DVD.
