Broadway Inspirational Voices
Traditional/Spring Hill
“Great Joy! A Gospel Christmas” features The Broadway Inspirational Voices, with vocal arrangements by Buryl Red and orchestrations by Joseph Joubert. Michael McElroy is the conductor.
In the March 2003 issue of MMEMail, it was my privilege to review the wonderful new CenturyMen album, “Anthems in Disguise.”
One of the groups appearing on this album was The Broadway Inspirational Voices, a group of 50 singers — currently performing in most of the top Broadway shows — breaking racial, ethnic and religious boundaries, and including such names as Phylicia Rashad.
Recently, I received this new CD, by The Broadway Inspirational Voices, “Great Joy! A Gospel Christmas.”
I sat down, turned up my system and let it rip! I was completely taken and captured by what I heard. The vocal arrangements are stunning.
The orchestration writing is some of the best I’ve heard recently. The singers have such a high energy and discipline in their singing.
The opening cut, “Joy To the World‚” won’t sound like any version you’ve ever heard. It has energy, life and really kicks.
“Little Drummer Boy‚” and “Infant Lowly, Infant Holy” probably are my favorite two cuts.
Creativity abounds and all of this energy, musicianship and professionalism comes together to make this album a sure hit for the Christmas season.
