FBC Trussville to host ‘packed, exciting, historic’ event in February

Sammy Gilbreath said this year’s State Evangelism Conference is packed. Exciting. Historic.

And pastors do not want to miss it, he said.

“The plate is fuller in this conference than it has ever been,” said Gilbreath, director of the office of evangelism for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, of the event set for Feb. 25–26 at First Baptist Church, Trussville. “It’s packed with a variety of speakers, and there are great musicians all day long.”

Speakers for Monday night and Tuesday include:

  • Herb Reavis, pastor of North Jacksonville Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Fla.,
  • Chuck Kelley, president of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary,
  • Ronnie Floyd, general editor of LifeWay Christian Resources’ Bible Studies for Life curriculum series and lead pastor and strategist of SEND North America, a major church planting strategy,
  • Jonathan Falwell, son of Jerry Falwell and senior pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church, Lynchburg, Va.,
  • Dan Lanier, senior pastor of Northcrest Baptist Church, Meridian, Miss.,
  • Robert Smith Jr., professor of Christian preaching at Beeson Divinity School of Samford University in Birmingham, and
  • William Rice, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Clearwater, Fla.

But “Tuesday night is where we are pointing all the arrows,” Gilbreath said.

The Tuesday evening rally will feature Fred Luter, the first African-American president of the Southern Baptist Convention, and gospel singer Larnelle Harris.

“I think it’s going to be a historic event and an exciting time,” Gilbreath said.

During the conference, Alabama Baptists also will kick off Praying Across Alabama, an effort to hold prayer meetings on the steps of every courthouse in the state.

Praying Across Alabama culminates in the National Day of Prayer on May 2.
