Want to know God?

Want to know God?

Sardis Baptist Church, Boaz

Recently I was in the country of Romania on a missions trip. I was preaching about salvation being a free gift of eternal life. There were two young boys sitting on the front pew of the church. I held up a dollar and asked one of the young boys if he wanted it. He shook his head yes. I asked him if he believed I would give it to him and he shook his head no. I held it out to him and said come and get it and you can have it. He shook his head no again and would not come. I asked the other boy if he wanted it and he said yes. I said come and get it and he did. After the service I asked the first young boy why he didn’t come and get the dollar and he said, “I was afraid you wouldn’t give it to me and everyone would laugh.”

Salvation is a free gift from God. The Holy Spirit convicts us that we are sinners and then offers us a free gift of salvation if we will just receive it. This free gift is obtained by inviting Jesus into our lives. So many people don’t accept this free gift because they are afraid God wouldn’t really give salvation to them.

On this same trip to Romania I had chartered a bus for our missions team. Our bus driver was a man named Romero. He did not speak English. I preached in a church one night through an interpreter. Romero was sitting on the back row of the church. I spoke about asking for forgiveness of sin and inviting Jesus in your heart and being able to go to heaven. I gave an invitation asking people to pray and invite Jesus into their hearts. I led them in the sinner’s prayer. After the service I got on the bus and the bus driver grabbed me and hugged my neck. He pointed to his heart and then pointed toward heaven. I asked him what had happened to him and he said he invited Jesus into his heart and received God’s salvation for his life.

We are guilty of making salvation hard. Jesus said getting saved is like taking a drink of water, like eating a piece of bread, like walking through a door. We have a great message to share to a world that needs to hear. Come to Jesus and receive this free gift of salvation.
