New artist Julie Elias has released “A Wild Rose,” her first full-length CD of original music. This follows her 2011 Christmas-themed project “Holy Night.” A year in the making, Elias said, “These songs are the stories of my life, spanning good and bad times.”
Elias was an up-and-coming actress, with recurring extra parts in many of your favorite TV shows and films, until a 2010 Christmas trip to her hometown that included sitting in with her home church’s praise and worship band completely changed the direction of her career.
“Christmas of that year was the most clear-cut, obvious message I’ve ever received from God, period,” Elias said.
“Breathing Room” starts the album with a driving rocker, moving effortlessly between major and minor themes, shifting pace each time. It’s one of the album’s best.
The title cut shifts to a mostly acoustic arrangement, punctuated by tasteful guitar fills, with Elias’ powerful voice out front. “I Am Yours” is a beautiful, moving piano and strings hymn.
This is a powerful debut project. I hope we hear lots more.
