Raymond Parkin: Former Alabama Baptist pastor dies

Raymond Parkin, a former Alabama Baptist pastor who served in ministry for 55 years, died Feb. 28. He was 81.

Parkin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. 

He accepted the call to preach at Katherwood Baptist Church, Birmingham, in 1957 and was ordained at Dolomite Baptist Church the next year.

He served in Alabama as pastor of Enon Baptist Church, Centreville; Smithville Baptist Church, Bessemer; and Vinemont Baptist Church. 

He also was the founding pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Vinemont.

In addition, he led revivals throughout Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Arkansas and Ohio and served as pastor of several churches in Mississippi. 

At the time of his death, he was three days from his last Sunday as pastor of Baxterville Baptist Church, Lumberton, Miss.

Parkin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wanda; four children; and three grandchildren.
