GREENSBORO, N.C. — Can a Bible course really be taught in public schools today? According to the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools, the answer to that question is a resounding “yes!”
The group has developed a curriculum for high school students that has been accepted by 236 school districts in 33 states. The course teaches the Bible as a history and literature course, and is taught for credit.
More than 153,000 students have taken the course.
“We have an open door. The National Secretary of Education and the Supreme Court have said it’s legal,” said Elizabeth Ridenour, president of the organization.
The course covers the Old Testament and the life of Christ. It is written using the King James Bible, though students are encouraged to use the translation of their choice. For more information, visit the organization’s Web site at www.bibleinschools.net.
