The Adventures of Little Mouse (Life Outside the Mouse Hole)

The Adventures of Little Mouse (Life Outside the Mouse Hole)

Sherri Williams. Bloomington, Ind.: AuthorHouse, 2012. 43 pp. (Paperback).

The stories in “The Adventures of Little Mouse” were inspired by the hardships faced by her daughter. A children’s book, each story has a bit of cautionary wisdom designed to help children make good decisions.

The stories have a similar theme: going out into the world and encountering adversity, then realizing that Little Mouse’s parents were right and he should pay attention to their advice. While the stories are well written (if a bit repetitive), the book has serious production problems: too many words on each page with too few illustrations to keep a young child’s attention, and too many pages with no illustrations at all.

If the beautiful full-page illustrations had been cut down to a half-page and more illustrations included, a child might be more likely to sit still and listen to it.
