With their new album, “The Struggle,” the Dove Award-winning band Tenth Avenue North hopes to point teenagers and young adults straight to the gospel — so they can connect to the truth, hope and love of Christ in the midst of life’s challenges.
“One of the main reasons that we write songs is to convey the truth and the struggle to believe that truth,” lead singer Mike Donehey said. “The theme of the new album implies permission to struggle with life’s challenges but encourages listeners not to remain in that place of struggle.
“Things are going to be hard, but we have something greater to look forward to. We are free to struggle, but because of what Christ did on the cross, we don’t need to struggle to be free.”
“During our concerts, it’s an opportunity for us to further explain these songs so people can connect to the truth of the gospel,” drummer Jason Jamison said.
He said the band hopes the record will come to life in a sense and listeners will walk away encouraged.
“So often, when we go through struggles and difficult times in life, our initial response is to ask God to take the pain away. But we have to remember that these issues in life aren’t surprises to God. Sometimes, we go through these situations so we will learn that our fullness and joy is completely found in Him,” Jamison said.
Donehey agreed.
“When people listen to these songs, I hope that they will realize that they are not alone in their struggles,” he said.
“They can connect to a Savior who loves them unconditionally and is with them every step of the way.”
