John Baughman has served in ministry through Alabama Campers on Mission (COM) since 2002 and has served as its secretary for about eight years. He said the ministry is mostly comprised of building projects but that COM participates in other ministry opportunities as well. His role includes such responsibilities as keeping up with membership information and maintaining project lists and prayer request lists. “It’s just been a real good experience,” he said.

Q: What influences led you to Christ at the beginning of your faith journey?

A: When I was in the junior department (in my church)
in Mississippi, I felt led to walk the aisle and give my heart to Jesus.

Q: How did you and your wife get involved in COM?

A: We … were involved in a local camping club … and as we were getting ready to retire we felt we might want to travel some and do something that was worthwhile. … One of the couples in our group said, ‘You ought to try [COM].’ We … fell in love with it … and we’ve done over 100 projects since then.

Q: What do you get out of this ministry?

A: Serving the Lord. It gives you something to do — a purpose to get up every day and not just sit around.

Q: How do you see yourself involved in this ministry in the future?

A: As long as our health holds up we’re going to continue to do it.
