Judson College honors former president

MARION, Ala. — The Judson College board of tustees voted May 8 to honor the late Judson president N.H. McCrummen by adding his name to the Erskine Ramsay Chapel in Jewett Hall.

McCrummen served as Judson's president from June 1970 until July 1990. He came to Judson from the pastorate, including service in churches in Birmingham, Selma, Atmore and Dalton, Ga.,  and continued to preach in pulpits throughout the state while at Judson.

The resolution adopted by the trustees noted that McCrummen demonstrated “a servant attitude and a pastor's heart for hurting people” while at the college, and was “a tireless advocate for the importance of campus worship and the spiritual growth of all who worked and studied at Judson.”

McCrummen died in March 2002.

The late Erskine Ramsay was a Birmingham businessman and philanthropist who provided funds to complete the original chapel construction in 1953.

Ramsay Chapel has been closed for the past 18 months while the Jewett Hall complex has undergone renovations, and is expected to reopen in early fall. The newly refurbished Ramsay-McCrummen Chapel will feature the latest technology in sound, visual projection and lighting.
