All About Love

From album to album, Steven Curtis Chapman has given listeners a glimpse into his personal life by including a song written for his wife Mary Beth. An album by the crowned prince of contemporary Christian music without such a song would simply be incomplete. After 18 years of marriage, Chapman decided to compose an album full of songs for his beloved bride. “All About Love” journals a variety of feelings, emotions and experiences that have resulted from Chapman’s relationships with God, his wife and others.
A few songs on “All About Love” come across as generic pop a la SCC; however, there are also glimpses of Chapman’s ever-increasing musical flexibility. His prowess as a songwriter is at its pinnacle on two tracks in particular. “We Will Dance” is a tender ballad reminiscent of Chapman’s most popular love song “I Will Be Here.” “Moment Made for Worship” is an inspiring anthem accompanied by Chapman’s commentary, “We worship God best when we love those He has placed us in relationship with.”
Surprisingly, very few Christian artists have given much attention to romantic love. Chapman’s candidness and obvious devotion to his wife are inspiring in that they cause the listener to truly reflect on the many expressions of love that are found in relationships with those closest to them.
