WASHINGTON — Following the controversial resignation of Wayne Pederson as president of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), people on both sides of the dispute are taking steps to heal the resulting wounds.
Pederson was forced out of NRB after telling the Minneapolis Star Tribune that he hoped the organization would emphasize ministry over political action. Politically active members, including Don Wildmon, James Dobson and Jerry Falwell objected, and agitated for his dismissal. Both Dobson and Falwell reportedly threatened to leave NRB if Pederson stayed on.
Robert Neff, vice president of broadcasting for Moody Bible Institute, sent a letter to the executive committee March 5 apologizing for an earlier letter in which he blasted NRB’s “600-pound gorillas” and “power boys” who are quick to pick up their marbles and leave when they don’t get their way.”
Dobson made his own conciliatory gesture, donating $5,000 to help pay for Pederson’s expenses related to leaving the NRB job so quickly.
