David Kilburn Morris, who served as the director of public relations for the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions (SBOM) from 1958 to 1971, died Dec. 7. He was 83.
Morris earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Florida in Gainesville.
After serving in the Air Force, he earned his master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He then earned his doctor of education degree from the University of Alabama.
Morris was director of development at Huntingdon College in Montgomery for 20 years. He also served as the director of public relations at Mississippi College in Clinton.
Known as “quite the storyteller,” Morris received national honors for the writing and production of the TV ad series, “Mainstream.”
Morris and his wife, Claire, were SBOM prayer coordinators through the office of global missions, a volunteer Mission Service Corps position, from 2004 to 2006.
Morris was a member of First Baptist Church, Montgomery, at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his wife, four children, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
