FBC Phenix City pastor dies: E. Eugene Langner Jr.

Pastor E. Eugene Langner Jr., who served First Baptist Church, Phenix City, died Dec. 18. He was 70.

Langner was called into the ministry in his youth during a camp at Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center in Talladega. He surrendered to the ministry in his mid-20s and had recently celebrated 30 years of ministry at First, Phenix City, in August 2013.

He received a bachelor of arts from the University of Alabama, a master’s degree in social work from Kent School of Social Work, a master of divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and a doctor of ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Langner served as a pastor in Kentucky and as pastor of Industrial City Baptist Church, Hueytown, from 1979 to 1983. He also worked as a social worker for many years and as a mental health therapist.

He is survived by four daughters and eight grandchildren.
