You’ve probably noticed that whenever a group releases a new recording, they already say it’s their best. Indeed, that should be the goal of everyone who enters a recording studio. Well, when the Primitive Quartet submitted their newest effort, “Mountain Memories,” they didn’t say it was their “best ever” or even a “we worked hard on this one.” Instead, they said, “We hope you hear something you like.”
To make a long story short, we heard a lot we liked. In fact, we liked everything.
The Primitive Quartet has a unique ministry that many tend to label as bluegrass gospel. Certainly, their sound is heavily peppered with bluegrass flavor, but in all actuality, what the Primitive Quartet does is acoustic gospel — and in this field, they are masters of their craft. They sing Southern gospel music the way it has lingered high in the mountains for ages.
In a day and time when consistency is not the “in thing,” the Primitive Quartet have never changed from their very first day. And that’s exactly why they are still on the road and a lot of self-proclaimed musical geniuses are looking for work. You see, those people didn’t follow the example of the Primitive Quartet — stay true to a style, but more importantly, stay true to the Lord and walk in His Light.
