We Americans seem to have lost our passion for God. Paul warned young Timothy about becoming entangled in the affairs of everyday life — reminding him that when that happens one ceases to please God as we have been called.
Seems like we can sit and watch sporting events for hours, be entertained by movies and TV without giving time a second thought, lose sleep over financial worries, but when it comes to worshiping the God of creation — the Lord of Lords and King of Kings — we are constantly looking at our watch. We not only want to shorten the length of our services but the number of services we hold a week. What it generally boils down to is we want more time for us.
Oh, that we could have the mindset of the early church. Their numbers were increasing daily because they were meeting together daily, studying the Scriptures together and visiting in one another’s homes.
They were experiencing something most churches have lost today — unity.
Christianity in America can change today, one believer at a time. We must ask God to give us a burden and then give us a passion to act on that burden.
Because He is … we can!
