Ministry Tips: Witnessing Through A Recreation Ministry

Recreation ministry is a tool churches have used for decades to share the gospel. To some, a “rec” ministry — as it is sometimes called — is about sports and fitness. To others it is about fellowship, a recreation building or something only larger churches can provide. And to some it is unfamiliar territory altogether.

Basically recreation ministry is about meeting the needs of the church body mentally, physically and spiritually. All three of these are related and work together to equip us as believers to do the work we are all called to do.

In fact a healthy recreation ministry provides an opportunity for the church body to share the gospel.

One example of implementing a gospel witness into your recreation ministry is to:

Plan a church picnic and encourage church members to invite their friends. I know that sounds simple and it is. The immediate impact is fellowship.

Take along a ball of any kind. Trust me your people will find something to do with it. You have now equipped your people to become active.

Plan the picnic at a park near a body of water and plan to baptize a new believer. Now they have seen the gospel.
