Want to know God?

Want to know God?

Do you know for sure that you are going to heaven when you die?” This question is often met with opposition in our society. People will sometimes give the answer, “I hope so,” or “I don’t believe it is possible to be sure.” I find it interesting that the Bible makes it clear to us that we don’t have to just hope we are going to heaven. We can know with certainty.

First John 5:13 is just one Scriptural example that has been given to us to promote confidence in our salvation. It says, “These things have been written unto you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” This verse was written to those who believe so that they will continue to believe. No matter what life throws at us we must never fail to believe in the name of Jesus. Jesus is the focus of our belief according to this verse.

“These things have been written to you who believe.” This part also is very important to consider. What “things” is John writing about here? Just before this in verse 11 he gives us a word of testimony. The word is that God gave us eternal life and eternal life comes through His Son. To be blunt, eternal life comes through Jesus Christ and no other way. The world will not tell you that today. In fact the world tells us there are many ways to heaven. But God’s Word tells us something different.

Verse 12 could not be any more straightforward. It tells us that “he who has the Son has life, and he who does not have the Son of God, does not have life.” Dear friend, if you have any intention of spending your eternity in heaven you need to be sure of this fact; you must have the Son of God in your life. There is no way around having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. There should be no doubt in your mind that Jesus lives in you today. He should be the Lord and focus of your life. You should be growing in Him on a daily basis. Are you sure?
