Contemporary group’s new album mirrors faith journey

The message behind the music starts with the name for the contemporary group Finding Favour.

The group’s theme verse is Proverbs 3:4: “So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.”

“We chose our group name based on this verse and to serve as a reminder that if we live by God’s Word and His commandments, we will find favor with God and man,” explained Blake NeeSmith, lead vocalist for the group. “Our hope is that we will be contagious Christians, living by God’s Word and His commandments, and that we would be an example to others to live that way as well and find favor together.”

Finding Favour consists of NeeSmith; Allen Dukes, guitar; Dustin Daniels, bass guitar; and Josh Duckworth, drums.

When Finding Favour performs they hope to offer more than a concert. They hope to provide students and young adults a life-changing encounter with God. Their first full album, “Reborn,” was released June 23 and reflects their desire to see lives changed for God’s glory.

“We want these songs to encourage people to be changed and live life differently,” NeeSmith said. “The album title reflects the changes in our music and our lives. … We aren’t the same people we were five years ago. We are continuing to grow in our faith.

“Everyone in the group was raised in the church, and it seems like we were there every time the doors were open. When we weren’t at school or at home, we were at church. We were all raised that way and grew up loving music. Eventually we got to the place where we were passionate about music and wanted to pursue music full-time. At the same time we wanted to make sure we were doing this for the right reasons and not following after our parents’ faith, but finding our own faith in Jesus.

“After we graduated high school, we started reading the Bible for ourselves and started digging into who Jesus was for ourselves. During this time, we started exploring what it might be like to play music full-time for God’s glory. Moment after moment and show after show, we grew from there and God opened doors for us to share our music and our story with others.”

‘Digging’ for themselves

Finding Favour recently wrapped up the 42-city We Believe God’s Not Dead Tour with the Newsboys and Audio Adrenaline. This fall they will be featured on the Air1 Positive Hits tour with artists such as David Crowder and Lauren Daigle.

While enjoying the journey, band members continue to take their task seriously.

“We want to share our message and music with as many people as we can,” NeeSmith said. “We love meeting people, hearing their story and hearing about how God has transformed their lives.”
