If you drive by Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Hueytown, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on a Monday in October then be prepared to roll down your window for Over the Moon Mondays, an outreach ministry that lets drivers know “God loves you and so do we (at Pleasant Ridge Baptist),” said Jane Bellew, chairwoman of the church’s activities committee. As cars approach the stoplight in front of the church they are greeted by beaming men, women and children and handed a Moon Pie and a church flyer. Through this small act of kindness, church members are connecting with people in their community and showing the love of Jesus through sincere smiles and welcoming words.
Over the Moon Mondays is a follow-up to Sweet Tea Tuesdays, a similar outreach that traded out Moon Pies for Milo’s Tea in June. On Oct. 5, more than 500 Moon Pies and flyers were given to passers-by.
