In the midst of the busy weeks leading up to Christmas, Grammy and Dove Award-winning singer/songwriter Laura Story is helping listeners reflect on the real reason for this season with her latest album, “God With Us.”
Story’s debut Christmas album showcases a 120-voice choir and a 50-piece orchestra that accompany her on several tracks, along with collaborations from multiple Grammy Award winner Steven Curtis Chapman and Emmy Award winner Brandon Heath.
In addition to including several Christmas classics, the album features original songs inspired by Story’s favorite Christmas memories and traditions.
“Every song celebrates Christmas and celebrates what Jesus has done for us,” Story said. “Over the past few years I’ve really felt a conviction to not allow Christmas just to fly by each year. One of the tracks on the album is called ‘Just Another Christmas,’ and it says: ‘Don’t let there be a moment that I miss.’ Basically I want my celebration of Christmas to be deeper this year and more meaningful.
“This album is based on the desire to help people really dig in and discover the true meaning of the holiday. The reason for Christmas is because the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. Humanity desperately needed a Savior and because God deeply loved us, He sent Jesus. That’s the message and truth that we celebrate.”
While performing concerts around the country, Story shares a testimony about clinging to Christ in the midst of trials. She also has written two books, “What If Your Blessings Come Through Raindrops?” and “When God Doesn’t Fix It: Lessons You Never Wanted to Learn; Truths You Can’t Live Without.”
“God has given me a lot of opportunities to share what I’ve learned through … trials and I can certainly attest that God has been faithful every step of the way,” Story said.
During her December concerts, Story hopes to remind audiences about the importance of slowing down to savor every moment of the season.
Along with performing and writing songs, Story serves as a worship leader at Perimeter Church, Atlanta.
“One of my responsibilities at Perimeter Church includes putting together our Christmas Eve service with about 8,000 people attending,” Story noted. “It’s a big responsibility because God doesn’t just want people singing ‘Joy to the World’ and walking out. God wants them to experience ‘Joy to the World’ and maybe experience for the first time what it means that Jesus came for them.
“Scripture tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from above. Everything about Jesus’ birth is significant to making a way for us. The joy that we celebrate with our family, that stems directly from what Jesus has done for us.”
