Today’s culture is teeming with sexual issues — from the Supreme Court’s ruling to allow same-sex “marriage” to the hacking of the Ashley Madison website, an “online store” for extramarital affairs. But what can the Church do to help? And how can believers be equipped to know how to handle these issues with biblical wisdom and Christlike compassion?
“The Church and Sexuality” conference will be held Feb. 29, 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Montgomery, immediately prior to the Alabama Baptist State Evangelism Conference.
Featuring keynote speakers Russell Moore, Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission president, and Timothy George, dean of Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, “The Church and Sexuality” will address issues of sexuality from both a biblical and cultural perspective.
‘The Biblical Truth’
Moore will cover the topic “Engaging the Culture Without Losing the Gospel” and George will address “The Biblical Truth About Sexuality in a Morally Relative Age.” Two panel discussions will tackle “Religious Liberty in a Culture of Moral Decline” and “Taking This Back to My Church.”
Multiple breakout sessions will be available to participants and will include: “Someone in My Life is Gay — What Do I Do?” with Teman Knight; “They’re Saying I’m Intolerant: Communicating a Biblical Perspective in a ‘Co-Exist’ Culture” with Tommy Treadwell; “Appropriate Policies and Procedures for Your Church: Navigating the New Cultural Landscape” with Jim Swedenburg; “Why Did God Make Me Like This: Questions About Gender Identity” with Rod Campbell; and “Keeping the Home Fires Burning: Sexuality Within Marriage” with Dale and Jena Forehand. Most of the sessions will be available to view online after the conference.
