High Hope Baptist assistant pastor dies

Robert Wayne Vickery, assistant pastor and worship leader for High Hope Baptist Church, Auburn, died Sept. 7. He was 71.

Vickery served in the Alabama National Guard for more than 20 years.

He also sang in the Crossroads Quartet for more than 20 years and used his love of music to lead churches in worship. He served as minister of music and youth at Center Baptist Church, LaFayette, and worship leader at Cowboy Church of Lee County, Waverly.

He was active in missions throughout Tuskegee Lee Baptist Association and was a part of the Master Builders Carpenter Team, disaster relief team and Eight Days of Hope, a nonprofit disaster recovery organization.

Vickery most recently served as a blue hat Tuskegee Lee Disaster Relief team leader in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda. He is survived by two children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. (TAB)
