“Becoming Your Best” by Ronald W. Richardson
When life is difficult and “everyone” seems to be upset with and disapproving of you and it feels like no one wants to be around you, it can be a tough pill to swallow to realize that those ideas may not be true at all. Those fears and feelings of “I’m not good enough” could in fact be your brain telling you falsities through the shroud of anxiety. And according to Ronald W. Richardson, to be human is to be anxious, so it’s something everyone deals with in one way or another.
“Becoming Your Best” is straightforward but thought provoking and discusses the ideas of emotional maturity, self-awareness, anxiety, communication and more all in respect to relationships.
A bit of a unique twist, but one that I really like, is that Richardson weaves lessons from characters found in Jane Austen books into “Becoming Your Best.” So far he’s mentioned characters from “Pride and Prejudice,” “Persuasion,” “Emma,” “Sense and Sensibility” and “Mansfield Park.”
If you’re looking to improve your self-awareness, as well as your relationships, I’d highly recommend “Becoming Your Best.” And don’t worry, you don’t have to like Austen or even have read any of her books to enjoy Richardson’s work.
