Providence marks 100 years in Town Creek

The rich history of Providence Baptist Church, Town Creek — led by Pastor Bertis Ray — was on display Aug. 14 as a crowd gathered for its 100th anniversary celebration. David McKelvey, pastor of First Baptist Church, Killen, and grandson of former pastor Paul Lang, spoke during the anniversary service. Jerry Armor, a representative for the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented a certificate honoring the Muscle Shoals Baptist Association church for its years of service.

For the celebration, the fellowship hall was decorated with old kerosene lanterns, magnolias and old quilts. A PowerPoint presentation displayed a history of the church through photos. And a commemorative bulletin with a brief church history showed photos of the church’s pastors and the four buildings Providence has met in over the years. The next-to-last building burned in 1981.
