Rick Lance said it was a “celebration more akin to a revival service” when Second Baptist Church, Fort Payne, gathered to celebrate its 100th anniversary Sept. 18.
During the special service, Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, complemented the congregation on being a pacesetter in giving through the Cooperative Program and setting an example as a leader in giving to the Myers-Mallory State Missions Offering.
Also during the service, Lonette Berg, executive director of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission, presented the church with a certificate.
Fort Payne Mayor Larry Chesser read a proclamation, and state representative Nathaniel Ledbetter read a resolution honoring the church.
Those present at the service enjoyed extravagant decorations, including photos and momentos, old toys and household items from the decades and many old quilts.
