The Angel of Forest Hill
Cindy Woodsmall. New York: WaterBrook, 2016. 196 pp. (Hardback).
It seems that Cindy Woodsmall is the queen of Amish Christmas books; “The Angel of Forest Hill” is her fifth. This was a good story, but a very simple one about a young girl who was sent to raise the children of a widower. Can you guess what happened? In a way, it reminded me of the old Seinfeld TV series — “A show about nothing.”
Before you conclude that I am panning the book though remember how much fun it was to watch the cast interact on Seinfeld. It really didn’t matter whether it was about anything or not. But then, I wouldn’t call “The Angel of Forest Hill” fun. Like most Amish stories, it was a little dark, heavy and slow moving but it did hold my interest. The book was well written and worthy of a read, especially if you are a fan of Amish stories.
