Patience, trustworthiness and integrity — those are some of the words Dana Workman, associate pastor of Hillwood Baptist Church, Huntsville, used to describe Pastor Charles Freeman.
Freeman has marked 30 years as pastor of Hillwood, “the church that sits up on the hill.”
Former church members came back to share testimonies at the May 28 celebration, as well as members of the search committee that called him to the church three decades ago.
“For someone to remain at a church for that length of time, it says something about the individual and the church,” Workman said.
During the service, Charlie Howell, director of missions for Madison Baptist Association, read a letter honoring Freeman.
A letter from Rick Lance, executive director of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, also was read.
Several other presentations were given, including a flag that had been flown over the White House.
And Freeman’s son, David, minister of praise and worship at Willowbrook Baptist Church, Huntsville, sang a solo of “Midnight Cry” backed by the choir and provided special music at the covered-dish luncheon that followed the service. (TAB)
