Dr. Bruce Earnest, professor of musical theatre in the Alabama School of the Arts, is the director for “Into the Woods.” Earnest also serves as assistant vice president for academic affairs and dean for the Alabama College for Professional and Continuing Studies.

“’Into The Woods’ is considered a paradigm-changing musical by Stephen Sondheim,” Earnest said. “The structure of this Tony Award-winning musical introduced many musical theatre vocal styles that had not yet been heard on Broadway, including rap.”

“Into the Woods” is a story of a childless baker and his wife’s attempt to lift their family curse by journeying into the woods, where they meet Rapunzel, Cinderella, Jack, Little Red Riding Hood and other classic fairy tale characters. As the story continues, the characters all must learn the responsibility that comes with getting what you want.

“It is a fun, mythical experience for the whole family,” Earnest said.
