A MISSIONARY’S ROLE

A MISSIONARY’S ROLE

As a missionary for 46 years in China, I have thought about this article (“Retired missionaries urge respect for the Muslim faith,” Aug. 7), and I am wondering- what kind of missionaries are the Southern Baptists sending out? What kind of message are they taking to a lost and dying world?

If Southern Baptists are not preaching the message (repentance), what are they doing on the missions field, and why are we sending them there?

Jesus Himself did not “respect the faith, values and aspirations of all the people of the entire area,” and He did not “reflect this respect in [His] public and private statements.” But no one ever loved those same people more than the Lord Jesus who gave His life and died for their sins. That is what many missionaries have done in the past, and that is still our mandate today.
