Abbeville’s Teddy Ward marks 50 years in ministry

When he was just 14, Teddy Ward preached his first sermon. It was at Maple Avenue Baptist Church, Geneva, and he even remembers it was titled “Have Faith in God.”

By age 18 the Geneva native was serving as pastor of his first church, New Hinson Baptist, Slocomb, and on March 4, Ward will have been preaching for 50 years.

Throughout his ministry, Ward has served various churches throughout the Southeast and also served as a pastor in New York for nearly 10 years. He is currently pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Abbeville.

Actually, this is Ward’s third time serving as a pastor in Abbeville during his 50-year ministry. He also served as pastor of First Baptist Church, Abbeville, on two occasions.

Ward is a graduate of the University of Mobile and also attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

He and his wife of almost 45 years, Charlotte, have three sons and five grandchildren. (TAB)
