UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — According to the American Family Association (AFA), only five national advertisers placed ads during NBC’s “The Book of Daniel,” a two-hour series that premiered Jan. 6. The AFA said advertisers came under fire from consumers who found the content disrespectful to people of the Christian faith. Immediately Chattem (Gold Bond, Icy Hot), Combe Inc. (Just For Men) and H&R Block said they would no longer advertise. Mazda and Burlington Coat Factory have not announced decisions on continuing advertising. One company told AFA it got a call Jan. 5, saying the ads were on sale at bargain prices and guaranteed good ratings. Not knowing the content, the company bought it. Another was trying to determine why it appeared on the show without its knowledge.
