Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers are on their way to help people in Florida and Georgia who are affected by Hurricane Helene, which made landfall near Perry, Florida, as a Category 4 hurricane Sept. 26.
A chainsaw team from Southeast Alabama Baptist Association is headed to do cleanup work in Live Oak, Florida.
ABDR’s large feeding unit will set up in Alma, Georgia, and work alongside the Salvation Army and Georgia Baptists to feed residents in four surrounding counties.
Mark Wakefield, state strategist for ABDR, said he’s also waiting to hear what is needed in other affected states. More teams will likely be deployed in the coming days.
Hurricane Helene carved a path of devastation through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee, causing power outages for millions and deadly flooding in a number of places.
