Alabama Baptist pastor, attorney serving with Gov. Ivey

BIRMINGHAM (TAB) — Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed Joshua Pendergrass, Alabama Baptist pastor and attorney, as her communication director. The appointment was effective April 19.

Pendergrass has been in private law practice since 2011 and previously served as pastor of Bethany Baptist Church, Crane Hill. He also has served as pastor of Cedar Mount Baptist Church, Pinson, as well as churches in Tennessee and Kentucky.

Ivey said in a press release, “Since taking office, I have worked to fill my team with men and women of the highest integrity. As we seek to restore Alabama’s image, I am glad to add folks like Josh Pendergrass who will work every day to steady the ship of state and improve Alabama’s image.”

Joe Godfrey, executive director of Alabama Citizens Action Program (ALCAP), added, “Josh Pendergrass is a faithful husband, father and community servant. Having served on our ALCAP board in recent years, Josh has demonstrated a perceptive knowledge of the major issues facing our state and has stood strong on the conservative values that are important to the people of Alabama.”

Pendergrass holds a bachelor’s degree from Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee, and a juris doctor degree from Thomas Goode Jones School of Law at Faulkner University in Montgomery. He also has worked on legislative and statewide campaigns in Alabama and Tennessee, according to the press release.

He and his wife, Leslie, have one son, Thomas.
