Youth from six Alabama churches praised God with a new song this summer as part of SonPower, an annual music event for youth at the Sheraton World Resort in Orlando, Fla., held July 8–12.
The Alabama teens joined 1,200 students participating in the event. In addition to rehearsing “Live Out Loud,” a new youth musical composed specifically for the summer event, the teens took part in Bible studies and worship services, practiced in a mass choir twice daily and participated in various missions opportunities in cooperation with the Greater Orlando Baptist Association. The students recorded their performance of the musical on the final day of the event.
Tom McCoy of Thompson Station Church in Tennessee led this year’s worship services, while Dennis and Nan Allen, a husband/wife composing and writing team from Brentwood, Tenn., assisted with choir rehearsals and drama workshops.
On top of that, the teens also attended a special student rally at First Baptist Church, Orlando, July 10, led by the church’s student praise and worship band.
Top Christian artists Russ Lee and FFH performed as part of the weeklong student event.

The Alabama youths who participated were from First Baptist, Alabaster; Broadway Baptist, Rainsville; Clearview Baptist, Pinson; First Baptist, Sylacauga; Wilsonville Baptist, Wilsonville; and Walnut Park Baptist, Gadsden.
“Our goal is to provide a positive music experience for students with strong Bible teaching and to provide missions opportunities for students to participate in,” said Greg Skipper of LifeWay music events and sales.
“We want SonPower to be something that when the students go back to their churches they can say ‘We had a musical experience and a life-changing experience as well.’ We want to see students grow spiritually through the missions opportunities provided during the event.”
SonPower began in 1988 under the leadership of Denny Dawson and Jack Price of Prism Music Company. LifeWay Christian Resources music ministries department assumed leadership of the event in 1997.
Next year’s SonPower will be held at the Sheraton World Resort in Orlando July 7–11, and students will once again take part in music and missions activities.
