Alabama wins national high school Bible Drill for third year running

With a quick memory and fast fingers, an Alabamian came away with the big win at the national high school Bible Drill for the third consecutive year.

Brett Frizzell, a member of Lighthouse Community Church, Harpersville, won the recent competition, held at the Georgia Baptist Missions and Ministry Center in Duluth, Ga.

“We’ve only had a national drill for three years, and Alabama has won the high school drill all three years,” said Sonya Tucker, an associate in the office of discipleship and family ministries of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.

Daniel Hopkins, a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church, Huntsville, won the drill last year, and his older sister, Michelle, won it the year before.

This year, eight high school drillers competed for the title. Eleven youth — including Tad Borowski of Cottage Hill Baptist Church, Mobile — also competed in the national youth drill that day.

Nine speakers, including Bethany Pate of Eastern Hills Baptist Church, Montgomery, also delivered speeches for the Speakers Tournament portion of the competition.

“They did really, really well,” Tucker said. (TAB)
