Alabamians appointed missionaries

Three individuals with ties to Alabama were recently appointed by the North American Mission Board (NAMB) to serve as missionaries.

David S. and Pamelia J. Carns have been appointed by the North American Mission Board to serve as church planter interns in Tombstone, Ariz., with the Cochise Baptist Association.

Carns, 38, earned a master of divinity degree from Southeastern Seminary, Wake Forest, N.C., in May. He served as youth pastor at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, Cary, N.C., since 1997. Carns, a graduate of Jacksonville State University, worked in radio as a disc jockey and sales representative for several years.

Mrs. Carns, 38, a former elementary school teacher, graduated from Jacksonville State University and The University of Alabama. A native of Tuscaloosa, she has led several children’s and ladies ministries at Reedy Creek Baptist Church. 

The Carnses have two children.

David B. Hicks was appointed to serve as a resort missionary in Orlando. 

Hicks, 25, is a graduate of Auburn University, where he received a bachelor of arts in communication/fine arts. A native of Montgomery, Hicks is director of creative ministries with His Hand Ministries, Millbrook, and a member of Mount Hebron West Baptist Church, Elmore.

As a professional performer since 1995, Hicks uses juggling, fire-eating and drama to share the gospel. He is working with the Greater Orlando Baptist Association. For the past several years, Hicks has served as a  NAMB-appointed summer missionary in Gatlinburg, Tenn.; Charleston, S.C.; Lincolnton, Ga., and Orlando.

Hicks will serve two years as a US/C-2 missionary. US/C-2 missionaries must be college graduates, not older than 30, and an active member of a Southern Baptist church. (NAMB)
