Alternative television

In a recent issue of The Alabama Baptist, I noticed a poignant article regarding the preponderance of profanity on television.

I applaud you for informing your readers regarding this media betrayal of the Family Hour and of the family in general.

I would also like your readers to be aware that there is an alternative. Many are not aware that Southern Baptists provide a television viewing option for today’s families through our own full-time television network — FamilyNet. The signal reaches into millions of homes in the United States and Canada with quality, family-friendly, child-safe programming.

In addition to a safe haven for family viewing, the Good News is proclaimed in full-length programming as well as spot announcements.

And, in concert with the North American Mission Board’s Evangelism Response Center, persons are able to call a toll-free telephone number andtalk with someone who cares about them. May I suggest an action individuals can employ to positively impact television viewing choices: Help bring FamilyNet to all of Alabama’s homes. The network is carried in portions of the state but there are many communities yet to be reached. If currently a cable or satellite subscriber, concerned Baptists can ask their television provider to add FamilyNet to the current lineup of channel options.

For more information on becoming involved in offering a wholesome alternative in TV viewing, Alabamians are invited to visit www.familynet.com or call toll free at 1-800-832-6638.
