Weeks after a Ugandan man professed faith in Jesus Christ, family members angry with his decision cut off his hands.
The brothers of 40-year-old Kalegeya Faruku ambushed him April 17 as he arrived at their family home in Jinja, Uganda, Morning Star News reported. They were angry that Faruku had given up Islam in March to become a Christian.

They recited Islamic scripture while cutting off his hands, Faruku told the news outlet, then abandoned him five miles away. A passerby found him and took him to a medical facility. Faruku was still receiving treatment as of Morning Star’s May 8 report.
Threatening messages
Prior to the attack, relatives had sent Faruku messages threatening his life, and on April 17 he had gone home to gather his belongings and move to a safer place, he told Morning Star.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. And though the constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence. Some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, World Atlas reported.
