“Our need is urgent,” Ed reluctantly wrote when he applied for help from the Adopt An Annuitant ministry. Ed served small churches for more than 37 years, where often little, if any, was paid into a retirement plan.
At retirement and facing declining health, Ed and his wife, Norma, found themselves struggling to pay for things like food, utilities and medicine.
When Ed passed away, Norma was left behind but she was not alone. The Adopt An Annuitant ministry was there to help.
For more than 80 years, GuideStone Financial Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention (formerly Annuity Board) and the Adopt An Annuitant ministry have provided critical financial relief to thousands of retired Southern Baptist workers, ministers or their widows whose income is insufficient to meet their needs.
Norma recently told us, “Being approved for the Adopt An Annuitant program means so much more than receiving a check each month. The discouraged and lonely feeling I had experienced was swept away through God’s love flowing through Southern Baptist churches and individuals.”
For Norma, and many like her, that help provides the basic necessities of life. “God’s promise to provide for His faithful servants, and our opportunity to act on that promise, are at the heart of GuideStone’s Adopt An Annuitant ministry,” said John Ambra, Guidestone’s director of endowment.
The Adopt An Annuitant ministry relies on the support of churches and individuals to provide this vital assistance.
