Ashby Baptist celebrates centennial anniversary

BIBB ASSOCIATION

On May 19, Ashby Baptist Church, Brierfield, celebrated an anniversary that might have never happened. Ashby Baptist was one of the five Bibb County churches set on fire in a string of arsons in 2006. But 13 years later the church still stands and has marked its centennial anniversary.

Tim Parker, who was pastor at Ashby in 2006, was the guest speaker for the special service. Lori Epperson gave a history of the church then invited members to share their favorite memories. Anna Spier presented the church with a certificate on behalf of the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission. Bibb Baptist Association associational mission strategist Bill Russell congratulated the church on the anniversary. Old photos, including photos of the old church, the burned church and the new building were on display, along with a “100 Years Ago in 1919” board featuring photos and prices of items in 1919.

Lunch followed the service and an afternoon singing with Karen Beck and New River.

“It was a wonderful day,” Pastor Shannon Allen said.
