Beeson Honors Two ‘Unsung Heroes’

In a tribute Sept. 11 to "unsung heroes, saints of God," Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School recognized Emil Lang and Sam D. Sharp for their enduring impact as Christian mentors. Beeson faculty member Charles T. Carter introduced Lang, who was his Sunday School teacher in 1948 at Calvary Baptist Church, Birmingham. It was then that the 12-year-old Carter committed to the ministry.

Beeson Dean Timothy George introduced Sharp, founding pastor of East 23rd Street Baptist Church, Chattanooga, Tenn. George attended Sharp’s church from second grade through sixth grade, and the two have remained close friends ever since.
