Birmingham’s newly formed health care network — developed from a merger between the four hospitals that made up Baptist Health System (BHS) and Brookwood Medical Center — was finalized Oct. 2.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for both organizations to be stronger and deliver better care throughout Birmingham,” said Keith Parrott, CEO of the new hospital system who previously served as CEO of BHS.
A name for the new system has not been announced, but Parrott said the name would incorporate “Baptist” and “Brookwood” because both have brand value.
Brookwood’s owner, Tenet Healthcare Corporation out of Dallas, Texas, is now the majority partner in the new venture and will manage the network’s operations.
The new system — which includes Princeton Baptist Medical Center, Shelby Baptist Medical Center, Walker Baptist Medical Center and Citizens Baptist Medical Center — has more than 1,700 licensed beds. It also has nine outpatient centers, 68 physician clinics delivering primary and specialty care, more than 7,000 employees and around 1,500 affiliated physicians.
The executive board for Birmingham Baptist Association, which previously approved the board members for BHS, approved creation of the new hospital system June 22.
